Always wanted to have a go at horse riding, but never had the chance? Or, did you used to take riding lessons? You're going to love Aldi's new Specialbuys, launching this weekend. The budget supermarket is helping to get more keen horse riders in the saddle by launching a new equestrian range and discount horse riding lessons.

Aldi has teamed up with two riding schools in Cheltenham and Wigan to offer 30% off a horse riding lesson for both adults and children. The deal is part of its Rein It In campaign, which hopes to make the sport more accessible to all, after research found that nearly one fifth of ex-riders were forced to stop their hobby because it was too expensive.

The 30-minute private taster session will see riders taught a wide range of skills. A typical horse riding lesson may see participants learn how to mount/dismount a horse, develop balance and control, stopping, steering and even potentially learning how to ask the horse to walk, trot, canter and halt. All lesson activity is entirely dependent on rider ability, which will be assessed at the start of any lesson.

All of the lessons are subject to availability, and just like all Aldi Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone – so you best be quick and book soon!

Aldi is launching an equestrian range this weekend.

Known for providing affordable, quality Equestrian clothing, the supermarkets' collection this year is no exception. Available in stores and online from Sunday 8th April, the supermarket’s latest Specialbuy range include great-value riding boots, jodhpurs, and a wide range of clothing, such as gilets, t-shirts and even socks.

Italian bootmaker Fratelli Fabbri has created a 100% vegan riding boot, crafted from faux leather and other non-animal components.

The Fabbri VEG riding boots are the result of a year of rigorous testing to endure they maintained the Fabbri standard, with riders of various levels, ages, and in different climatic conditions putting the boots through their paces. The company says the VEG boots are resistant to stress and exceptionally comfortable.

“Because of their synthetic materials and construction, they are more difficult to damage and easier to clean. The vegan leather, a result of many years of research and development, allows for air flow and has antimicrobial properties,” the company said.

The new boots join Fabbri’s line of equestrian footwear, including their popular Pro Boots... READ MORE

A couple of years ago I bought myself a Superdry jacket for a spring holiday in Exmoor. It then became the jacket I changed into when I threw off the jacket I'd been wearing on the yard to avoid driving people away with my horsy pong when I went shopping! However, the following year it ended up being the jacket that I wore for yard work and riding. Not only did it look really good, but it was lightweight whilst keeping me lovely and warm. It had some wonderful details like elasticated panels at the side so it was comfortable to move in, plus elasticated inner cuffs to prevent the wind whistling up the sleeves. And that's not to mention the wonderfully sturdy double zip system that really helped prevent any unwanted drafts AND they never got stuck once! A few years on and it's still in top condition.

This year however, I was given a Horseware Ireland jacket for Christmas. At the time I was pretty happy as it looks good (I’ve even been complimented  on it) and is water resistant too. However, I think there isn't a day goes by when the zip doesn't get stuck on the flimsy bit of material behind it. It absolutely drives me mad! And then a couple of weeks ago I found that the lining had come away under the sleeve.

The jacket was actually a medium when I'm only a size 10 but I always like jackets to be roomy so this definitely wasn't caused by it being too tight! Also as I haven't ridden this year for various reasons, it hasn't come in for much abuse. Now the Horseware jacket was cheaper than the Superdry one but at over £70 it still wasn't cheap and surely you should expect zips that don't get stuck all the time and a lining that doesn't split within a month!

Have you had experiences like me with equestrian brands not being worth the price tag? And do you opt for non-equestrian brands?

V for Victorious | Equestrian Fashion

I love discovering special brands who clearly have a real passion for what they do and I’ve always loved handmade/artisan jewellery.  Recently, I was approached by Viki, from Victorious, who introduced me to her brand and I’ve been an advocate ever since.

I spent the day with the wonderful Lizzie Churchill,  looking through some products which we both adored.  Below are some of my favourite pieces. These can all be found on the Victorious website, here.

The pieces look great by themselves or stacked up. As usual I went overboard on the stacking!

What I really love is the rustic feel of the jewellery. While Vikki has a mix of country/equestrian pieces, of course my favourite was the equestrian themed pieces. I particularly loved the double stirrup necklace pictured below.

This jewellery is really versatile and can be worn for pretty much any occasion.

Crystal brow bands, diamanté breeches, carbon fibre saddles....the list goes on.

Equestrian products, for both horse and rider, have evolved at a rate of knots in the last few years, but has it all gone a step too far?

We take a look at some of the equestrian products wowing us at the moment and also ask that burning question - "is it all really worth it?"

1. Lamborghini GP1 Limited Edition Saddle

Price: £6,500

Benefits: Well this saddle is certainly a head turner if nothing else. This saddle is fully hand-made. The materials used also ensure it's crush proof, with the front part of the tree reinforced with stainless steel. The saddle is made in a way which minimises pressure on a horses' back muscles.

2.PS of Sweden Bridle

Price: Circa £250

Benefits: This bridle has been designed to give a horse full freedom whilst wearing a bridle. The shape of the headpiece reduces the pressure on the poll and gives more spaces for the ears to move naturally.

3. Samshield Shadowmatt Black Chrome Helmet

Price: £513

Benefits: It has a crystal trim?! Surely that will give you a bit of magic to make you go faster in the jump-off? Or to add some spring to your medium trot? In all seriousness, this hat is equipped with a front air inlet which ensures the helmet provides exceptional ventilation. It's scratch and drop proof and an all round hardy helmet.

4. Animo Breeches

Price: £192.50

Benefits: The ultimate glamour. These breeches have Swarovski crystal detailing on the front and back pockets and along the back. They also feature Animo's 'AGS Gripping System' knee patches. They are also known for their wonderful fit.

We're not going to lie, we'd of course love all of the above products and it's great that we have such diversity and options available to us as equestrians. We're also excited to see what direction equestrian fashion goes next.

In answer to our question however, "Is it worth it?", we'd have to say, no... not really.
